Sometimes, I hate it when I am right! Back on Feb. 2 in my “Danger, Repubs, Danger!!” post, I laid out what I thought the political plan was for Obama to overhaul healthcare….and I was on target! Then, again, of Feb. 25 when I posted “Summit vs Gauntlet”, I was reinforcing my belief that regardless of the fears of most Americans, Obama was going to push to gobble up the entire apple…not take just a bite of healthcare.
The political tide is running strong against the Democrats; and this November they will be swept out of the House….and, maybe, the Senate! First, it was Virginia and New Jersey followed by the almost unbelievable victory in Massachusetts. Those elections signaled the mood of the country. Now in Texas, two Republican titans were supposed to step into the ring to duke it out….but the fight was called in the 1st. round! Rick Perry squashed Hutchison like a bug on a speeding Nascar windshield! Texans voted against Washington, not against Hutchison. That message should be resonating with incumbent Democrats (and Republicans) in every state! But, are they listening?
But, I do agree with Obama on one thing….it is time to for an “up or down” vote. The effort has sucked all the oxygen from the room at a time when our leaders (and I use that term very loosely) should be focused on repairing our economy and putting private jobs back into the system.
Depending on which pundit is squawking from Fox, MSNBC, or CNN, the House may, or may not, have the votes to pass Obama’s progressive vision. If the plan gets out of the House, then it will eventually be signed. On that day, progressives will hail the wonder of Obama and his accomplishment; and the conservatives will be lining up candidates to defeat the Democrats and try to repeal the legislation.
So, the fat lady is standing in the wings, exercising her cords and warming up! If she hits all the right notes, then another bloated, government entitlement baby will be birthed. If she is off-key, then the play writers will have to start over. Regardless, she is gonna’ sing and, then, the curtain will come down………..at least, for a while!
Postscript: It angers me when I hear the statement that Republicans are to blame for healthcare not passing so far! Let’s do look at the facts! The Democrats have an overwhelming majority in Pelosi’s playground; and, until Brown’s election, they had filibuster-proof control of the Senate. So, don’t blame Repubs……blame Dems if this initiative fails! If it was just a partisan fight, it would have been over long ago. That’s what Obama and the Progressives don’t get!
