Newt’s Baggage – The Prototypical, Political Hypocrite!

The latest polls from Florida show that Newt Gingrich has opened a lead over Mitt Romney in the upcoming primary election.  Newt has overcome a 20 point deficit with fiery debate rhetoric and the help of a friendly press.  As a Republican and conservative, I am dismayed by how easily that the uninformed electorate is led down the yellow brick road by this phony, pompous narcissist.  Newt, with all his baggage, is skipping along to the fictional Emerald City to hold court for his minions.  Let’s examine what it would mean if Newt Gingrich was the GOP nominee next fall.  Newt would guarantee four more years of Barack ObamaGingrich can never defeat Obama….no matter how much the far right wants Obama out of the White House.   And, why can’t Newt win?  First,  Gingrich takes credit for writing  the 1994 “Contract with America” that outlined what the GOP would do if they took control of the House.  In fact, the “Contract” was written by Larry Hunter with assistance from Gingrich and, at least, 6 other Republican Congressmen.  And after being named the Speaker of the House, Newt’s popularity diminished and he ultimately resigned, under pressure from his Republican colleagues, after he was charged with 84 ethics violations.  An extensive investigation by the House Ethics Committee resulted in Newt paying a fine of $$300,000 after the House voted 395-28 to reprimand him!  Newt not only resigned as the Speaker, but, gave up his seat as well.  So, do we want a person with questionable ethics in the White House?

Next, and continuing in the ethics theme, Newt has taken approximately $1.7 million from Fannie and Freddie for his “historical” knowledge….not lobbying, though!   He “counseled” with organizations in the fore-front of questionable, creative mortgages! Newt takes us for fools!  Newt also pleads for the “family values” and evangelical vote.  Yet, Newt is working on his third wife and has not disputed the allegations of impropriety during the first two marriages.

Third, he has tried to frame his campaign as being a Washington “outsider” whereas nothing could be farther from the truth.  Newt has been involved in politics for over 30 years!  He is the embodiment of the Beltway Insider!! He boosts of being a populist outsider, but, it ain’t so!!!!!!!!!!

Furthermore,  Newt is good at live debates where he can have an audience that cheers whenever he pontificates and proudly self-proclaims himself as a sage intellectual!  But, what is really said after the scolding and stern warnings?  Not much….just a big bag of hot air!

Finally, on a recent MSNBC program, Barney Frank (D-MA), said, in effect, “I never thought I would live a life so good that God would reward me with Newt Gingrich as the Republican nominee for president!”  Enough said!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could have gone on and on about the reasons that Newt should not be the GOP nominee; but, you get the picture.  The GOP electorate has the choice of Newt OR a proven, successful businessman/governor, Mitt Romney.  In Mitt, the party has a family man married to the same woman for more than 40 years, a man devoted to his faith, and a person that can appeal to the broad spectrum of voters.

I hope that Florida voters (and those from other states) with not fall for Gingrich’s frothy words; and realize that voting for Newt is the same as if they were voting for Obama.  And, a parting shot, Newt, get off the Saul Alinsky train!  He died in 1972 and if you didn’t mention him, no one would even care!!

P.S.  The following was written by a friend and deserves a note of mention.  He poses the response that CNN’s John King should have given to Gingrich’s opening rant in the
SC debate:
Mr. Speaker, notwithstanding your umbrage, the fact is the American people do care about the character of those who choose to run for president.  Moreover, you yourself have made character an issue both in this election cycle and the past, even going so far as to make speeches about Christian and family values while leading the effort to impeach President Clinton, all while you were yourself engaged in similar behavior.
Additionally, you say that even asking about your second ex-wife’s statements is, and I am quoting here, sir, “as close to despicable as anything I can imagine.”  You clearly hold yourself in high esteem, as I am sure the majority of the American people would find the atrocities committed everyday around the world to fall a lot higher on that scale than your marital failures.
That said, given you are now saying that the story run by ABC is “completely false.”  Does this mean you are now denying that you had an affair while married to both your first and second wives?  And are you also denying that you engaged in such an affair with your current wife in the same bed you shared with your second wife?
Oh, and f$#k you, Mr. Speaker.
